HCMA Alliance

October 1st, 2011

Dear Alliance Members:

We had been very busy during the last few months since our last report.   These are the latest events of our Alliance.

April:  We selected five (5) students for our Evelyn Shaver Scholarship Fund and awarded a total of $3,200 in scholarship funds.   We would like to acknowledge the HCMA Foundation for their grant of $1,000 to help us continue this community effort.

May:  Our President submitted an entry form application for the FMA Alliance Award of Excellence for our Health Educational and Promotion Program: “Stop Colon Cancer Now” for their consideration. Our 2010-2011 County Alliance Year-End Report was submitted to the FMA Alliance and sent to all members via e-mail for review.

June:  The HCMA Alliance selected their Board Members for 2011-2012. We are proud to present to you:

July:  Our Treasurer and I  met for long hours during this month and have been developing all the treasurer protocols and created a more efficient method of documentation. The idea was to increase accessibility to files for Alliance’s future treasurers in addition to create a greener process for documentation exchangeability. 

July 29th –July 31st:  We participated on our Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. These are the highlights.

We are proud to announce the FMA Alliance awarded HCMA Alliance First Place of 2011 Award of Excellence for Community Service Award and Best Health Information Program for our “Stop Colon Cancer Now” Program given in October 2010. 

We had three delegates representing our HCMA Alliance:  Blanca Crespo, Nimisha Chheda and  Mari Leal. Thank you so much for your participation.  We had the installation of our new FMA Alliance President, Joni Routman and FMA President, Miguel Machado.  I will be serving the FMA Alliance Board of Directors as District Vice-President and will be serving as well on the FMA Alliance Financial Committee.

During the summer, I was proud to graduated on the Inaugural Class of Physician Leadership Academy, I was the only none physician and the representation of the FMA Alliance during this 10 months program given by the University of Florida.  I will be writing an article for STAT magazine about details and my experience on this training program for leaders of the future.

August: I submitted an entry form for Southern Medical Association Alliance on our Health Promotion and Educational Programs in Women Health Series: Go Red for Women.   For next year, we are planning our Third Go Red for Women and we hope to involve not only our members but physicians’ offices and our community.  The SMA Alliance, for the first prize on this category awards $500.00 grant which can be use to continue our efforts on women health education.  Wish us luck!!

September: We had our General Meeting on a very beautiful afternoon on September 22nd, 2011 at the Yacht Club on
South Tampa.  Dr. Christopher Pittman, vice-President of the HCMA and Secretary of the FMA PAC was the speaker of the date.  The topic was “Political action and its importance to the Medical Family.”  We would like to give our thanks to Dr. Pittman for helping with our mission of Legislation Education and Involvement. He spoke about the FMA PAC achievements during the last few years and the importance of the family of medicine’s support to achieve success during this coming election year.  For more information: www.fmaonline.org/pac

August 30th at the FMA/FMA Alliance Annual Meeting

Blanca Crespo on behave of the HCMA Alliance received the First Place for Health Education and Community Program from the FMA Alliance. Also, she received an acknowledgment for her graduation at the First Class of the Leadership Academy sponsored by the FMA Foundation.
